The eight papers, taken together, propose what Professors Dutta and Doz believe is a new theory of the firm in the AI age. They argue that the AI-enabled firm is becoming a programmable, adaptive system in which intelligence, decisions, learning, coordination, and incentives are embedded in digital and agentic infrastructure.
This leads to a new view of competitive advantage: advantage increasingly depends on intelligence flow, programmable execution, bounded autonomy, learning power, swarm participation, and behavioural alignment. It also leads to a new view of leadership: managers must not only choose strategy, but design and govern the systems through which strategy is enacted, learned, adapted, and renewed.
